Borough and Parish Council Conduct Given Thumbs Up

Date of Release: Tue 7th June, 2005

Charnwood Borough Council's Standards Committee has submitted its Annual Report to the Borough Council.

The Standards Committee is responsible for maintaining and promoting high standards of conduct at the Council and the 26 Parish and Town Councils in the Borough. The Committee is made up of five councillors representing each of the three main political parties, two independent members and one parish council representative. It is chaired by one of the independent members.

The Committee's annual report described the work that the Committee had done over the last twelve months and also highlighted areas where further work was planned.

The Committee recognised that Charnwood retained a sound record in ensuring good standards of conduct and it was the Committee’s intention to build on that to ensure that standards are maintained and enhanced in the future.

The Committee chair, Mr Philip Tomlinson and Vice-chair, Councillor Peter Lewis said, "Looking to the future, we still need to ensure our elected Members at every level maintain that very high quality of service shown over this past year. We live in an age of constant change, and our task must be to ensure everyone remains fully up to date in order to better serve the public."

The Committee thanked all councillors, officers and others who had contributed to its work during the year.
