Council and Airport Team up to Promote New Jobs

Over a hundred new Nottingham East Midland Airport jobs will be showcased in venues around Loughborough as the result of work between the Council and airport bosses.

Iain Kirtley from the Council’s Economic Regeneration team explains, “The airport is expanding it’s business and hiring staff and we are keen that Loughborough gets its share of the jobs. Although employment is not generally a problem in Charnwood there are areas where there are pockets of higher unemployment and we are targeting these areas with the recruitment fairs.”

Cllr. Betty Newton, the Council’s Cabinet Lead Member for Economic Regeneration said, “This is the first airport job event in Leicestershire and we are pleased that it’s happening here in the borough. We are targeting areas where jobs are in most demand in Charnwood. The airport has provided jobs for many local people. I’d encourage people to go along and see what is on offer.”

The average rate of unemployment in Charnwood is currently 2.6%.

The Council has worked alongside other agencies and community groups to help organise the recruitment fairs including the Hastings Community Association and The Racial Equality Council.

The first job fair will be held at the Shree Ram Krishna Centre, Alfred St. on the 22nd of Febraury between 2 – 4pm.
