Fantastic Day Out in the Outwoods

I was lucky enough to join a group from the Vrudha Nivas residence for the elderly, which is on Rendell Street earlier this week at their picnic in the Outwoods organised by Charnwood Borough Council. There was 16 residents (and 2 grandchildren) at the event, along with Usha Solanki the project worker from the residential home and Varsha Parmar from the Charnwood Racial Equality Council. As part of the day, one of the Conservation team, Mark, gave us all a guided walk around one of the walks available.
Charnwood Borough Council is committed to ensuring that all our services are accessible and we are trying to remove any barriers which may hinder access.
It is vitally important that we offer equal opportunities to all and this doesn't just mean in the traditional sense, but in the way that Charnwood markets and promotes our green spaces to communities.
We all hope that by opening up the Outwoods to a broader community, to all communities, we can ensure that more and more can enjoy such a fantastic part of our borough.
The Outwoods provide access to an ultimately Cleaner Greener Charnwood and although it's not traditional for BME communities to enjoy such areas we hope that by promoting them in this way they will become an integral part of their community lifestyles.
I for one had a great time, and will be returning to the Outwoods soon with my family.
