Charnwood Borough Council - Leading in Leicestershire

County Councillor and former Borough councillor Mike Jones received the Freedom of the Borough of Charnwood in a special ceremony held at the Town Hall on Monday 29 Sept 08.

The ceremony attended by both councillors and members of the public that included Mike's children and grandchildren and wife Marj. It was a very emotional night for Mike who has given over 40 years of service to public life and is very well known not only in the east of Loughborough where he serves asthe county councillorbut throughout the town and county. Until recently he was ward councillor for Loughborough Hastings ward, where he was well liked and gave most of his time and dedication working tirelessly for the betterment of the community. At the ceremony speeches were given by Labour leader Cllr Max Hunt and the current council leader Cllr Richard Shepherd. Cllr Roger Wilson deputy Chairman of Leicestershire County Council also said a few kind words.
