Eastern Gateway and the Train Station Re-Development

All the funding for the Eastern Gateway has been secured, excellent news for the area around the Train Station. Finally we can look forward to a new road to take off all the thru traffic on Ratcliffe Rd and Burder St as these two roads will be capped off.

Residents can look forward to more available on road parking and a residents preference parking scheme. Something long overdue to the area.
The work should start on site within a few weeks once all the formalities are done and the contracts signed and we should see the road being finished in about a year and the housing development shortly after.
There will be around 120 houses and flats, most of which will be social housing, available to help reduce the pressure on the housing waiting list.
The railway station is also being redeveloped to include a new bridge, lifts, new frontage, larger car park and longer platforms. All this should be completed by 2012 in time for the Olympics with the town hosting the Japanese Olympic team before the games start.
