SO MUCH THAT IS GOOD HERE -WHY BE SO NEGATIVE

Posted Mon 24th March, 2008 by Cllr. Peter Lewis

Can I make a plea that we stop doing that terribly English thing of moaning, putting down, and writing 'disgusted letters' to the local press? Instead - do more to celebrate what's good here in Loughborough. All councillors and townspeople work hard to make the town a good place to be. Several people I spoke to recently actually choose to come shopping here - one from West Bridgford! Our parks and the Outwoods are lovely, our Leisure Centres, theatre, cinema, and restaurants alive - and while, yes, there are bad grubby patches, Churchgate is really worth visiting - and have you seen the new Magistrates' Court?

Good things are happening, so look around you properly and not through old glasses. The more we sell this town short, the worse it will get.

Here are people from all over the world. Our University, Charnwood Arts, Charnwood Racial Equality Council, all our Twinning Links in Europe and beyond mean that our town, set in the heart of England, is known and is many instances loved and admired around the world. I for one am immensely proud to live here. As the song says, let's "Always look on the bright side of life". Who knows - we might feel happier!

Happy Easter
