Damp and Mould Survey in Privately Rented Homes

0%
Many people have experienced issues with damp and mould in their property. Even in properties that are well-maintained and warm can suffer from mould growth in parts of the home, particularly in colder months of the year. Most mould growth in properties is likely to be the result of condensation, although some mould may be the result of a building defect that has caused damp in the property.

Residents with damp and mould in their home are far more likely to have problems such as respiratory problems and/or infections, allergies or asthma. Damp and mould can also affect the immune system.

Allergens (substances that can cause an allergic reaction) are produced by mould, as well as irritants and, sometimes, toxic substances. Inhaling or touching mould spores can cause allergic reactions, including sneezing, a runny nose, red eyes and skin rash. Asthma attacks can also be caused by moulds.

This survey sets out to uncover how prevalent damp and mould is in privately rented houses. Your responses can help Charnwood Borough Council to work with landlords and tenants to manage the risks caused by mould. If you are a tenant with a private landlord and live in Charnwood, we would like to hear from you.

Once you have completed this survey, please visit www.charnwood.gov.uk/damp_private_sector where you will be able to get further information and advice on this subject including the option to report any concerns that you have about your home for further investigation.
