Voting

Am I Eligible to Vote?

In order to register to vote you must be 18 years old or over; a British, Commonwealth, Irish or European Union citizen; and living in the Charnwood Borough. Click on the link below to see a list of countries eligible to register.

What is Postal Voting?

Postal voting is another way of casting your vote during an election. Instead of going to the polling station and completing the ballot paper, the ballot paper is sent direct to the address of your choice. Once you have completed the ballot paper and filled in all the necessary paperwork you can then send it back. You can either post it back in the pre-paid envelope provided, take it to a polling station in the ward or constituency or bring it to the Council Offices.

How do I get a Postal Vote?

A postal vote application form can be sent out on request. Please note that we can only accept forms electronically that have been signed by hand. To do this you must have access to a scanner.

What is Proxy Voting?

A proxy vote enables the elector to appoint a person to vote on their behalf. The appointed person can vote on your behalf in either of two ways; going to the polling station or by post. Upon applying for a proxy vote you must state the reason as to why you are unable to vote in person. For further information or an application form please contact us. We will be happy to answer any of your questions.
