Cleaner Greener Campaign

'100 Day' Count Down To Cleaner, Greener Charnwood

REPORT A PROBLEM WITH GRAFFITTI or FLY TIPPING

The ‘100 Day Campaign’ has now come to end. The awareness raising campaign, which brought environmental issues to the top of the agenda, ran from 25 September and finished on 2 January, 2007.

Now the 100 Day campaign countdown is over it means Fixed Penalty Notices will be issued and the Street Warden scheme will be extended.

The campaign was based on three principles; to inform people what the Act involves how it affects them and their neighbourhoods; it assisted people in understanding and preparing for the Act to come into full use and finally; it enforced through Fixed Penalty Notices.

  • Failure to pay a Fixed Penalty Notice, the ‘On The Spot’ Fines, will result in prosecution.

  • It takes 1 to 12 years for cigarette butts to biodegrade.
  • It is estimated that removing gum costs between 45p and £1.50 per square metre.
  • Chewing gum takes five years to biodegrade.
  • 1.3m bits of litter are dropped on the UK's roads every weekend.
