Environmental Protection
Contact
We are a small team of qualified Environmental Health Officers and Technical staff set up to enforce various environmental laws on behalf of Charnwood Borough Council. We also carry out work to assess and manage some forms of environmental pollution within Charnwood, specifically in relation to air pollution and contamination of land from historical industrial use.
Part of our strategy is to make more information available to the public via our web site. Our aim is to reduce repetition where possible by making greater use of technology, leaflets and other relevant web sites. Any resources this frees up will be used to deliver a higher quality service and to deal with the more complex and demanding issues that we are involved with.
We aspire to use all of our powers in a way that is fair and proportionate. By the very nature of our work we recognise that not all of the people who use or come into contact with our service will be happy with it. However we have produced and published policies which all our officers should be using to inform of the decisions they take. A copy of our Enforcement Policy can be found at the Environmental Health homepage.
After consultation with our customers over a number of years we have also set ourselves some service objectives which we monitor on an ongoing basis. We use customer surveys to measure ourselves against these objectives and to inform how to seek to improve the service.
From 2007 we also started producing an annual plan which gives a clear commitment of what we intend to do with the resources we have available. We use this as our main management tool to track progress on how well we are meeting our commitments
