Food Safety
Contact
Welcome to the Food Safety Team. Our role is to improve and enforce standards of food hygiene and health and safety in food premises within the Charnwood Borough.
We:
- Inspect local food businesses to enforce standards of cleanliness and good hygiene practices
- Investigate complaints about hygiene or contaminated foods (e.g. glass, metal, insects)
- Randomly sample purchase foods to test the quality and safety
- Investigate cases of food poisoning
- Run a Scores on the Doors Scheme in conjuction with other Local Authorities in Leicestershire
Scores on the Doors
Scores on the Doors is a scheme designed to allow public access to the star ratings awarded to all catering premises by Environmental Health Officers. This means that pubs, restaurants, cafes, schools and care homes will all be inspected and their star-rating will be clearly displayed on their premises and included in a national database.
