National Planning Policy & Guidance

The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) publishes national planning policy and guidance.

East Midlands Regional Plan

The Regional Spatial Strategy for the East Midlands (RSS8) (the current Regional Plan 2001-2021) sets out regional planning policy and is part of the development plan for the Borough. This is currently under review and will be replaced by the East Midlands Regional Plan to cover the time period up to 2026. A draft of the Regional Plan was published by the East Midlands Regional Assembly on 28th September 2006

An Independent Examination of selected matters arising from representations on the Draft Plan was held in May-July 2007. The Panel Report was published in November 2007. The Secretary of State is currently consulting on Proposed Changes to the Regional Plan until 17th October 2008 and will issue the Regional Plan later in the year.

Leicestershire, Leicester & Rutland Structure Plan 1996 - 2016

The Structure Plan is relevant in terms of planning policy at the County level.

Minerals and Waste Planning to 2006

The County Council also produces a Minerals Local Plan and a Waste Local Plan for these topics for the whole county. These will be replaced over time by Minerals and Waste Local Development Framework Documents .
