Scores on the Doors - Environmental Health Database

Explanation of the Scheme

The rating scheme has been designed to allow public access to the scores awarded to food premises by Environmental Health Officers, based on the Food Standards Agencies Code of Practice for enforcement officers. This will allow the public to access information and make an informed choice about the premises they eat at.

The ratings are based on a 3 star system:

  • 3 Stars – a good premises
  • 2 stars - a satisfactory premises
  • 1 star – a poor premises
  • And no stars – a failing premises

The system can be accessed by following the link which will redirect the user to a national database of information about food premises. This site is also being used by a number of other Leicestershire Authorities to publicise their scores.

The scheme will also award premises a certificate so that their rating can be clearly displayed . The certificate format is still being agreed by the group but we anticipate they will be launched in the next few weeks.

The scheme will involve a range of premises including mainly caterers,( pubs, restaurants, cafes etc ) and also schools and care homes, at a later date we may add additional premises. The scheme will start with inspections made between April and June of this year and will be rolled- out as we inspect all the premises over the next 2 years. So, if a premises does not appear on the website, it simply means that they haven’t yet been inspected to give a rating on this scheme.
