ESSENTIAL TREE WORKS FORCE GOLF COURSE CLOSURE

Date of Release: Tue 12th August, 2008

SHELTHORPE Golf Course will be closed for two days next week to allow essential tree works to be carried out.

Around 25 elm trees died a number of years ago from Dutch elm disease but the condition of them has deteriorated and they now need to be felled for health and safety reasons.

To enable the work to be carried out safely, the popular course will be closed on Wednesday, August 20th and Thursday, August 21st.

Chris Traill, Charnwood Borough Council’s Director of Leisure and Environment, said: “The majority of the trees are around the boundary of the course, although some line fairways and holes one to eight will be affected.

“Unfortunately, we’ve had little choice but to close the whole course so the work can be completed without putting the health and safety of golfers at risk

“We apologise for any inconvenience this will cause.”

The course is scheduled to re-open on Friday, August 22. To find out more about Shelthorpe Golf Course, simply log on to http://www.charnwood.gov.ukpages/shelthorpegolfcourse
