Charnwood Homelessness Review & Strategy 2008 - 2013
The homelessness strategy review 2008 – 2013 constitutes the first formal review of the original homelessness strategy and action plan published in July 2003. It provides an updated assessment of housing need and homelessness in the Borough and a progress report on all key actions included in the original action plan. It also includes a revised action plan based on updated consultation with key stakeholders.
This review process highlighted a number of key issues, gaps in service provision and areas for further action which translated into 5 over-arching priorities for the strategy:

1. Preventing Homelessness
2. Reducing the use of insecure temporary accommodation to meet the 2010 target and ensuring that any temporary accommodation used is appropriate and suitable
3. Providing settled homes for homeless and potentially homeless households
4. Providing appropriate support for vulnerable people
5. Working with partners to prevent homelessness from occurring and to provide assistance where it does

From these priorities specific action points have been identified and the action plan, accompanying the strategy, sets out how they will be delivered. The majority of actions contained within the action plan require the in-put and resources of a variety of organisations and will therefore be delivered jointly and monitored through the multi agency Homelessness Strategy Steering Group. In addition progress will be measured through a range of local and national performance indicators and through customer satisfaction.
