Charnwood Borough Council has become the first Authority in Leicestershire to produce a comprehensive ‘fit for purpose’ housing strategy through consultation with its partners and local community. This standard measures the effectiveness of the Council’s Housing Strategy and its performance in providing quality housing services within the Borough.

Of the 40 local authorities in the East Midlands Charnwood is just one of five whose housing strategies have been judged ‘fit for purpose’ and the only one within Leicestershire. ‘Fit for purpose’ affirms commitment to the Council’s vision and success in ‘Leading in Leicestershire’ by raising the standards of homes and the surrounding environment, fostering sustainable communities and providing quality advice to those in housing need.

The Housing Strategy sets out the Council’s priorities and plans for housing over the next five years in both the public and private sectors and is designed to ensure that Charnwood continues to enable high quality affordable housing in years to come.

BME Housing Strategy

The celebration and promotion of diversity and equal opportunity for all is at the heart of the Council’s Community Strategy and core values, and the development and to assist in the delivery of these values Charnwood have developed a BME housing strategy.
