There are a number of people that can assist owner-occupiers who are having problems with their accommodation.

I am Having Problems Paying my Mortgage

If you are having problems paying your mortgage you should contact your mortgage lender to explain the problems you are having, and see if you can come to an agreement. If you are unable to come to an agreement with your lender and feel you may be at risk of losing your home you should contact Housing Needs.

You should also contact the National Debtline on 0844 248 0040, the Bridge Housing Advice Centre:

Advice also available from:

Citizen's Advice Bureau (CAB)

I Have Repairs that Need Doing

If your property is falling into disrepair and you cannot afford to maintain it yourself you should contact the Private Housing Section who may in certain circumstances be able to assist you.

I am Having Problems Living Independently

Charnwood Lifeline is a scheme allowing the elderly and disabled to maintain an independent lifestyle by providing a link to a Control Centre which is manned by trained operators 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

If your property is no longer suitable for you because it requires adaptations you may qualify for a Disabled Facilities Grant.

I am Suffering Harassment at my Property

If you are being harassed in your property and you think a criminal offence may have been committed you should also inform the police. If you feel it is no longer safe for you to remain in your property you should contact the Housing Needs Section.

If you are being harassed because of a noise nuisance, the Environmental Protection Team may be able to help. More information on the law relating to noise nuisance, and how the Environmental Protection Team can help, is available here.
