Shelthorpe Youth Club
February 2006
The Youth Club at Shelthorpe has been neglected over recent years, although there is a strong group of people who maintain the Youth Club with little support. The Association was impressed with their dedication and commitment and decided to help wherever we can. The Association considers the Club one of their major projects which will be ongoing for some time in the future.
We asked the young people for a ‘wish list’. The document they produced was quite lengthy with everything on it from pens and pencils to a laptop. Well we did ask! Undaunted we began our quest.
We were thrilled recently to hear that we had been successful in obtaining a grant of £1,000 to help towards the cost of some of this equipment. (still a long way to go – but a great start).
We are in the process of applying for a further two grants, in the hope of obtaining more cash to help improve the building as well as purchase more equipment.
Following some begging letters and phone calls we were also thrilled when a local company Cash Convertors, very generously gave us a donation of a TV/Video combo unit and an X-Box Games machine. (On a personal level I feel I need to take this opportunity to personally thank the staff, they were extremely friendly and helpful from the initial phone call, almost without hesitating they agreed to help, within 36 hours we were informed of the donation – now that is service! Not only that they even put the items in the car for me – BRILLIANT).
So we have made a good start and our quest continues.
If you feel you can help in any way or you know of any local company that would be willing to help, please get in touch. We need all the help we can get.
