How To Join The Scheme

To join the scheme you need to visit your G.P., a Practice Nurse or another Health Care Professional. If you are eligible and the scheme is considered appropriate they will complete a referral form for you, which will be sent to your local co-ordinator (the Active Lifestyles Development Officer).

You can be referred to either Loughborough Leisure Centre, Loughborough or a community venue within Charnwood.

Loughborough Leisure Centre

If you have been referred to Loughborough Leisure Centre we will contact you with details about your introduction to the scheme at the Leisure Centre.

At this time you will meet a member of the gym staff. All the gym staff are very enthusiastic and experienced instructors and will show you around the facilities at the Leisure Centre. They will explain what the sessions will involve and answer any questions you have about the sessions and general exercise and health.

The staff will also advise you about the community run sessions, which you are also very welcome to attend. After your introduction you will also be issued with your Active Lifestyle membership card.

What happens after 3 months?
At the end of your 3 month referral period at the Leisure Centre, you will need to "move on" from the Exercise Referral classes to allow other people to benefit from the scheme. However, DON'T WORRY! We know that this is not an easy step to make and with this in mind we are now holding "moving on classes" to help you. To attend these sessions you will need to contact the gym staff who will issue you with a green card.

Community Sessions in Village Venues

If your G.P. has referred you onto one of the community sessions, we will contact you with details of the class and the details of your start date. Your Community Active Lifestyle Referral Card will also be included within this information pack.

Clothing

  • For each session you will need to wear comfortable clothing, e.g. T-shirt/ leggings/ tracksuit bottoms/ loose trousers and sensible footwear (preferably trainers)
  • For aqua you will need to wear swimwear and you may also wear a T-shirt if you feel more comfortable
  • You will also need a drink of water and at Loughborough Leisure Centre a £1 coin (refundable) if you require the use of a locker to store your bag etc
