Cabinet jobs unveiled for the next year with great expectations.

Date of Release: Mon 4th July, 2005

Council Leader, Cllr. Max Hunt has announced the Cabinet line up for the next 12 months. "I'm tremendously proud of the Cabinet team, nine people dedicated to improving Charnwood and giving an enormous amount of their time and energy, often with little reward."

Cllr. John Bryant the New Liberal Democrat Leader takes on the challenge of the built environment, seeing through the Eastern Gateway project which surrounds the rail station and other major developments, such as the Loughborough Town Centre and Science Park. He will also be charged with moving the Council's youth policy forward, and has volunteered to be the new Children and Young Person's Champion.

Labour's Deputy Leader, Cllr. Betty Newton continues with her brief to oversee the changes to council housing and also takes on Environmental Health, including Air Quality for which Leicestershire County Council are being pressed to deliver traffic reduction.

A major new role has been created in Partnerships and Customer Services for Dr. Jill Vincent. "With the improvements to customer services by phone, Internet and at Southfields itself; with our partnership in services with County and intensive work with the voluntary and business sectors, there is much important work to do in the new Directorate", said Cllr Hunt.
Cllr. Vincent’s role will also cover drinks licensing, where a saturation zone has been set up to limit drink sales in the town centre.

Cllr. Sandie Forrest continues as Chair of the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership and Lead member for Community Safety. Cllr. Cameron Macleod is Lead Member for Development Whilst Cllr. Bob Feeney is the Lead Member for Leisure and Environment.

Cllr Ian Sharpe, who continues as Lead Member for Finance, said, "We have a talented team with the right skills, a good rapport with people but able to work at all levels, which is rare. Charnwood is very lucky."

Cllr Ken Anthony, taking on Change Management, explained, "Organisations like Charnwood are rapidly improving their performance but we can only do it by examining what we do and continually improving. Managing the changes aren't easy, but I'm impressed with the way staff have risen to the challenge.”
