Summer Holidays Looming
Date of Release: Wed 6th July, 2005
With just over a week to go before the start of the summer holidays, Charnwood Borough Council are building up to a fun packed summer of activities for young people aged 5 – 16 years old. The Council’s popular summer activity programme once again promises an array of sport, leisure and trips sessions to try keep youngsters entertained over the summer period. The all-new look summer activity programme starts on Monday 18th July and has once again received ongoing support from the Loughborough based health care company AstraZeneca R & D Charnwood and the Loughborough Echo.
With what promises to be the biggest programme yet, the Council are sure that Charnwood youngsters will find something exciting to do over the 6 week holiday period. For those aspiring Tiger Woods out there, the Golf Academy Days/ Courses for 10 – 16 year olds provide the ideal opportunity for both beginner and experienced golf enthusiasts to concentrate on skills such as chipping, putting and driving.
For those interested in strutting their funky dancing skills, the 2 day fun and funky dance for both 5 – 7 years and 8- 12 years will encourage youngsters to not only dance to their favourite tunes but also develop their own routine with assistance from our qualified and experienced dance artist.
For 12 – 16 year olds who are keen anglers, the activity programme offers a day out at Broome Angling Society Lake in Frisby, where participants can receive expert tuition from one of the Countries National Coaches. Bait for the day is provided free of charge, however anglers are required to bring their own rod. Other activities to keep youngsters occupied are climbing and swimming, ice skating, horseriding for 8 – 16 year olds, karate, kwik cricket plus lots more.
As well as the wide variety of sporty activity sessions, there are also a number of exciting trips to choose from, which include transport to the venue. 8 – 16 year olds are encouraged to come along to our party on wheels at our new trip to Rollerworld. Even if you haven’t got any skates, its no excuse as skate hire is available at no extra cost! Families are also encouraged to come along for an action packed day at Wicksteed Park on Wednesday 20 July. Other exciting trips include Megabowl, Drayton Manor and Twin Lakes Park.
Youngsters aged 5 – 16 years can receive fantastic discounts on the Councils activity programme, as well as over 40 local places, by buying the Wild card, which is a must have item for this summer.
Sara Meikle, the Council’s Community Leisure Development Officer says,
“The Wild Card provides superb savings at lots of sport and leisure venues. The Council’s activity programme in particular offers members up to 50% discount on holiday activities, and for only £3 a year the Wild Card is great value for money.”
The Summer Activity Programme is available now. The Council are urging parents to book their youngsters onto the summer activity programme as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
