Council’s Summer Activity Programme kicks into action next week
Date of Release: Mon 11th July, 2005
With the long awaited school holidays now here, six weeks of exciting, enjoyable and exhilarating sport and leisure activities lie ahead for young Charnwood residents aged 5 – 16 years old. Charnwood Borough Council’s Summer Activity Programme kicks into action on Monday 18 July, and for the following six weeks the Council’s sport and leisure team will be travelling around the borough providing a range of fantastic activities designed to keep youngsters occupied during their free time.
Although activities are booking up fast, there are still places left on activities offered next week. The all time popular climbing sessions encourages 8 – 16 year olds to push themselves to their vertical limits under the guidance of qualified instructors, and the use of professional equipment.
Young aspiring horse fans aged 8 – 16 years are encouraged to join in on the horse riding sessions next Wednesday and Thursday. Riders will have the chance to go on a short hack along bridle paths around the stables in Woodhouse Eaves, do some fun Gymkhana games and also learn the basic grooming techniques.
The first trip of the holiday takes place on Wednesday 20 July to Wicksteed Park, Kettering. From the ‘Bumper Boats’ to the ‘Mars Explorer’, children of all ages are expected to have an action packed day, whatever the weather! This trip is for families of all ages, although youngsters aged 8 – 11 years are able to attend on their own, as Council staff will be providing supervision. The trip is mostly suited to children under 11 years (4 years plus). Cost for the trip is £18 per person (including transport there and back) however, if participants have a Wild card they can receive a fantastic discount of up to £9.
Annette East, Sport Development Officer for the Council says,
“Whatever your interest and/ or ability we are sure that we have organised an action packed programme to keep all youngsters occupied over the summer holiday. We hope that the trip to Wicksteed Park will encourage families to spend a valuable day together taking part in fun activities.”
Annette continues,
In addition, we recognise that the summer holidays is often an expensive time for families and we hope that by joining up to the Wild Card scheme families will be able to make substantial savings when trying to keep their youngsters entertained.”
