Summer Fun

Date of Release: Wed 27th July, 2005

Now into its second week of activities, Charnwood Borough Council’s Summer Activity programme is keeping many youngsters aged 5 – 16 years occupied during their school break. Sponsored by Loughborough’s large health care company Astra Zeneca and the Loughborough Echo, the Councils summer programme encourages young people to try and range of sport and leisure activities, whether its to learn a new sport or to develop new skills, the sport and leisure team at the Council are sure there is something for everyone.
Although activities are booking up fast, there are still places left on a selection of exciting activities next week. For those 8 – 16 year olds who want to push themselves to their vertical limit, the climbing session at Beaumont Leys Leisure Centre on Wednesday 3 August is the perfect challenge. For any 10 – 16 year olds who fancy a whirl on the ice, the ice skating trips to Nottingham ice stadium is the ideal opportunity to test out skills on the ice.
The visit to Riley’s American Pool and Snooker Club in Loughborough on Thursday 4th August encourages 12 – 16 year olds to learn how to play or to just brush up on their skills. Participants can take part in a pool tournament, where prizes include a brand new pool cue or free pool time at the venue.
The next trip of the programme sees 8 – 16 year olds shoot their way to sharpshooter status at Mega Zone in Leicester on Tuesday 2nd August. Participants will get 2 hours to play a number of laser games against each other. Transport is included.
Youngsters are reminded that the Wild card gives fantastic discounts, not only on the Council’s Summer programme, but also at lots of other sport and leisure facilities, visitor attractions such as American Adventure and local retailers such as Subway.
Annette East, Sport Development Officer for the Council said,
“We are pleased that our summer activity programme has been so popular so far this year and that Charnwood youngsters have taken advantage of trying a range of exciting activities.
