Council Announces New Scheme to Bring 1,000 Jobs to the Borough

Date of Release: Fri 2nd September, 2005

Charnwood’s Cabinet met last night and gave the green light to a major new development which could bring more than a thousand new jobs to the Borough.

The development on the site off the Derby Road close to Dishley Grange to the East of Loughborough will see the Council bring forward 50 acres of allocated land for the creation of a new £40m ‘mixed use employment area’ as well as a new wildlife park and tourist centre at the historic, Dishley Grange.

Jonathan Hale, the Council’s Director of Regeneration said, “A lot of hard work has gone into this project. We will work in partnership with William Davis Ltd to bring new jobs to the area. But there are also potential benefits to recreation in general and Loughborough Football Club in particular who are set to get a brand new site on which to develop modern playing, changing and training facilities.”

Cllr. John Bryant, Cabinet Lead Member for Regeneration said, “This is a landmark project for Charnwood. In the 18th century Robert Bakewell transformed the farming industry from Dishley Grange Farm and we hope this project will help in the continued transformation of the Borough as a great place to work, live and bring up children. It’s our intention to work closely with William Davis Ltd to bring about a development that creates opportunities for local employment, is sustainable and recognises the heritage of the site itself.”

John Belton the General Secretary of Loughborough Football Club welcomed the news and said, “It is a great relief that a clear decision has now been made. We will obviously be sorry to leave our Derby Road home but we can plan now for an exciting future and we look forward to working with the Council to meet our development needs.”
