Charnwood Borough Council Announces Walks Programme for 2006

Date of Release: Wed 15th March, 2006

Charnwood Borough Council are pleased to announce the launch of their 2006 walks programme which will be opened by the Mayor of Charnwood on Monday 10th April 2006 with a walk from Soar Valley Leisure Centre, Mountsorrel at 11am.
Active Lifestyle Development Officer, Nita Pearson said:
‘This is our third annual walks brochure, and it includes many new walks for individuals and families throughout the borough to enjoy. During the launch week, starting 10th April, there is a walk a day for people to enjoy, covering the whole borough, and we hope to see lots of people enjoying taking exercise for free. Every year, we see more and more people taking advantage of our walks programme, with last year’s figures more than doubling the figures for 2004.’
Walking is a great form of exercise, helps with health problems, and is a great place to start if you are looking to improve your general health and keep fitter. It is family-friendly, can include pets, and fits in with any lifestyle, income bracket, culture or domestic circumstance. It can also form part of the Government’s suggested target of seeing everybody achieving 30 minutes of exercise at least 5 times a week, or walking the recommended 10,000 steps a day.
Copies of the walks brochure are now available from the Council offices on 01509 634836, from libraries, the Town Hall and tourist information points.
