Spring Has Sprung for Borough Council's Environmental Clean Up
Date of Release: Mon 27th March, 2006
The clocks have sprung forward and so has Charnwood Borough Council: Celebrating Spring by launching an environmental awareness campaign - Spring Clean, today (Monday, March 27).
‘Spring Clean’ month, which will run from Monday, 27 March to Monday, 24 April, is designed to focus the Borough on environmental clean-ups and promote pride in a greener and cleaner Charnwood.
Environmental Day tackle a huge clean-up campaign in central Loughborough. The aim will be to clear rubbish in order to help prevent secondary fires as well as illustrate the positive affects on a cleaner neighbourhood.
Monday is also the Borough’s first Environmental Action Day. An initiative headed by the Arson Task Force, with multi-agency input and funded by the Charnwood Community Safety Partnership's Building Safer Communities Fund. CBC’s Community Safety Team, Cleansing and Housing and Health department and Leicestershire fire service are also directly involved.
Other initiatives happening throughout the month, include: graffiti removal, litter picks, clean-ups of play areas, parks, housing estates, roads and footpaths, as well as the development of online forms to identify ‘grot spots’ and to pledge support for the campaign.
Lead Member for Leisure and Environment, Councillor Bob Feeney, said: “Spring Clean is about raising awareness of our environment and how we can improve it by working together. As a Council we’re aiming to target key areas and work with residents to identify problem spots for tackling in the future, in doing this we hope that residents will take pride in their communities and help us in our mission to make Charnwood cleaner and greener.
“I’d like to urge all residents to spend some time considering what they can do to improve the look and feel of our Borough. This could include anything from painting the garden gate, planting a few colourful pot plants or picking up a little litter on the walk to the shops.
“This is not a one off campaign that will fade after a month; it is part of our commitment to continuous improvement in Charnwood.”
