New Town Centre Partnership Launches Christmas Programme

Date of Release: Tue 26th September, 2006

The recently formed Loughborough Town Centre Partnership is taking the initiative to put together a full programme of events and activities to ensure a successful Christmas trading period for the Town.

The programme kicks off with an all-day event on Sunday November 26th which culminates in the big switch on of the Christmas Lights at 5 p.m. by a mystery celebrity. There will be an ice rink, children’s rides and entertainers. The shops will be open all day and Radio Leicester will have a sound stage in the Market Place.

Adrian McInnes, Chair of the Partnership said “Christmas is the key time of the year for traders and we are determined to help them make this one of the best ever. Its about creating an atmosphere to attract people of all ages to come to the town, soak up the Christmas spirit and have some fun while they do their Christmas shopping”.

Working with the Loughborough Echo, Carillon Court Shopping Centre and others the Partnership has brought together a number of organisations who are committed to the idea and are able to deliver a top class programme of events and activities.

There will be four late night shopping nights with the majority of shops open until 8 p.m. on Wednesdays – 29th November and the 6th, 13th and 20th December. There’ll be pantomime characters and stalls dispensing hot chestnuts and mulled wine.

Friday 8th December will be truly magical with the ever popular French Market with crepes and cheeses as well as a Christmas Craft Market.

As usual the Mayor will host the Annual Carol concert in the Market Place on a date to be announced soon.

Jill Vincent, Charnwood Cabinet Lead Member for Partnerships said “This shows just what can be done by working together in true partnership”

With other events planned for the four Sundays leading up to Christmas, the Partnership aims to make this a Christmas to remember for Loughborough
