AstraZeneca - Latest News
AstraZeneca's announced at the beginning of March 2010 that it intends to close its R&D operation in Charnwood by the end of 2011 will obviously have a very serious effect not only upon the staff involved but also upon the wider economy. The Borough and County Councils, the local MP at the time, and various other agencies immediately called a meeting with emda to discuss what could be done. EMDA has set up a task force and is putting out a tender for consultants to carry out an Economic Impact Assessment of the effects of the closure. This is being carried out as rapidly as possible consistent with contract regulations and the contractor being appointed by the end of April. The report is expected at the beginning of August. All commercial enquiries from potential buyers of the site / whole operation are being directed through emda to AstraZeneca. Further information will be posted as and when it becomes available.
