Best Value Customer Satisfaction Surveys

Between August 2006 and March 2007 we carried out four major consultations about the way we provide our services and how satisfied people are with the level of service they receive.

These surveys - often referred to as BVPI (Best Value Performance Indicator) surveys - happen every three years and are carried out by every Local Authority in the country.

How it was done

For each survey a paper based questionnaire was sent in the post to pre-selected individuals and/or households across the Borough. This is the method of consultation that government rules said we had to use.

Who we asked

The broad criteria for deciding who received one of these surveys including the following:

The recipients of the Planning Survey will be those people who used this service between 1 April - 30th September 2006.

The recipients of the Benefits Survey were those people who used this service between 1 June - 31 July 2006 and between 1st November 2006 and 31 December 2006.

The Housing questionnaire was sent to all of our tenants.

The general survey was sent to 6,000 randomly selected households within the Borough. The list of households was chosen by the audit commission who ran the consultations. The council was not involved in this selection.

What we are doing with the results

The information we collected was sent to the Audit Commission for analysis and was made available in early summer 2007.

We have used the responses we have received to help us to find out how satisfied people are when using our services and identify where we need to make changes to improve satisfaction. This is part of our on-going commitment to ensure that we provide services that meet the needs of the people who use them.
