It's official, Nature Conservation Work is good for you. Research carried out by Oxford Brookes University has shown that planting trees, erecting fences, clearing out ponds and controlling wayward vegetation can use up as many calories as a step aerobics class, and not only is the great outdoors a great place to get fit, it’s also a great place to relax. Just being out in the countryside can help to reduce stress levels and, combined with the physical health benefits of exercise, conservation work is a great tonic. The Charnwood Wildlife Volunteers, take part in conservation events throughout the year working on some of the areas most important wildlife sites (see timetable below). Conservation volunteers learn new skills, make new friends and enjoy access to some wonderful wildlife sites, and we are always looking for more help, so If you'd like more information on conservation volunteering opportunities in Charnwood contact Mark Graham on 01509 634976.

Thrussington Wildlife Area: location SK650160 Hoby Road Thrussington – opposite the Village Hall (LE7 4 TH) for anyone with satnav).

Outwoods: location SK514159 Meet in the Outwoods car park, off Woodhouse Lane, Loughborough

Rectory Wildlife Garden: Meet at the gate to the Garden, which is behind the Old Rectory Museum on Steeple Row in Loughborough

Burleigh Wood: location SK511177 Meet at the end of Nicholson Road,
Loughborough.

Useful Tips For New Volunteers.

· Tasks start at 10 am and finish at 4 pm, but you may attend for just part of the day.

· Wear old clothes, stout shoes and bring waterproof clothing.

· Tea and coffee are provided, but bring a packed lunch if you intend to stay all day.

· Tools and training will be provided.

· While on task you are covered by Charnwood Borough Council’s insurance.

· Ensure your Tetanus jab is up to date (a booster is required every 10 years).
