Charnwood Sports Council is an organisation which was set up in 1979 by Charnwood Borough Council to promote the development of sport and physical recreation within the Borough

What does it do?

Charnwood Sports Council has a diverse role which ranges from providing advice on facility development and other sporting issues to disbursing grant aid to affiliated sports clubs on behalf of Charnwood Borough Council.

What type or organisations can affiliate to C.S.C.?

Affiliation is open to organisations who are providing sporting and physical recreation opportunities within the Borough of Charnwood.

Organisations affiliating to Charnwood Sports Council are given the following benefits:

How much does it cost to affiliate to C.S.C.?

  • Only £10 per annum for sport clubs
  • Only £5 per annum for sport's clubs catering only for juniors and non sports clubs/groups providing sporting opportunities

The affiliation fee is valid for the period up to 31st March each year.

What sort of things are eligible for grant aid?

Grants are available in the following categories:

  • Development Grants to help meet the initial costs of establishing a new club/section or to expand your clubs sporting programmed
  • Coach Development Grants to help improve your facilities
  • Sports Facility Grants to help improve your facilities
  • Talent Support Fund to assist individuals in their pursuit of excellence

Do organisations have to meet any condition before they can apply for grant aid?

Yes. Some of the main conditions to be considered are that the organisation:

  • Must be based in the Borough of Charnwood and affiliated to C.S.C.
  • Must have a written constitution (sample available)
  • Must be voluntary and not constituted for profit
  • Must have a membership system which is open to all

How much money is available?

Grants have been issued in the past ranging from £50 - £5,000.

Who decides which applications will receive funding?

Charnwood Sports Council has an executive Committee comprising of representative of affiliated organisations who are elected at the Annual General Meeting held in May each year.
