Charnwood Citizens Panel
Your Charnwood, Your Say!
Your Charnwood, Your Say is the Council's Citizen's Panel.
Joining the panel is a great way of having your say on the way we do things. As a member you can get involved in planning the way we do things.
It is an opportunitiy to tell us what you think about the way we run our services and to suggest how we can make them better. We can only fully provide the services that you want if you tell us what it is that you want!
"It’s no good complaining if you are not prepared to do something to make the system work better."
- Citizens' Panel Member Roger Abbott

What Does the Panel do?
THE Citizens’ Panel looks at a variety of issues relating to the services provided by Charnwood Borough Council. In the past, this has included Crime, Anti-Social Behaviour, Refuse & Recycling, Cultural & Leisure Services, the Standards of our Customer Services and the building of new homes and businesses in the Borough. Whilst most of the issues covered will be relevant to all members, some may be more specific and only have relevance to certain members of the panel.
We always aim to make sure members are only asked to comment on the issues they are interested in.The Panel does not‘vote’ on issues but the views and feedback we receive helps us to
plan our services more effectively.
How Does the Panel Work?
THE Panel isn’t just about filling in paper questionnaires. As a panel member, you will be invited to take part in a number of different types of consultation including postal surveys, telephone surveys, online polls and focus groups(meetings). You won’t be asked to take part in more than four consultations a year.
When you join, we will ask you to tell us which of these methods you would prefer us to use when we are consulting with you.We are also open to new ideas about how wecan consult and communicate with
our members and we welcome your suggestions and ideas.
"As a citizen of Loughborough, I have lots of ideas and opinions about our town but little time to phone or write a letter expressing them. I find being on the Panel is an easy way to get some of these heard".
- Citizens’ Panel member Julie Armstrong
What do we do with you Responses?
The information you give to us will be used to plan our services. We will also aim to solve any immediate problems you raise. We will pass your views and responses to the people within the Council responsible for the issue(s) discussed. This will include the Leader of the Council, Councillors, Chief Executive, Head of Services and the people who run our services on the ground. The results will also be reported to Panel members and the wider public through Charnwood News, the local media and the Council’s website.
Who is on the Panel?

TO be eligible to join, you just need to be a resident in Charnwood. Our aim is to maintain a membership of 1,000 residents from across the whole Borough. When new members join, they are asked to take part for a maximum of three years, after which you cannot rejoin for 12 months. If we already have 1,000 members, you will be placed on a waiting list. As soon as a place becomes available, we will let you know.
