Core Features of the Grant
Type of Funding
Support for projects with set-up costs and on-going activities of voluntary or community organisations.
Who may apply?
Properly constituted voluntary & community organisations.
What does the Grant cover?
- Projects which are able to show that there is a significant element of volunteer input and which are meeting a need which would be otherwise unmet.
- Holiday Play Schemes - As these are centred on the school holidays your attention is drawn to the meeting dates for the Charnwood Grants Panel below. Applications need to be made well in advance of their start date to allow sufficient time for the Panel to resolve any queries and determine the level of support before a scheme starts.
- Individual Grants- The only assistance given to an individual is to those residents of the Borough selected to participate in Operation Raleigh or equivalent ventures. Financial assistance is currently limited to £50 per person. The Borough Council has only limited funds available and it will be appreciated that it is not feasible to finance the many varied activities of all the citizens of the Borough.
- Religious Organisations and Festivals - Religious organisation projects will be funded if the project is providing an appropriate service to the community. Religious festivals that demonstrate cultural diversity and are open to other communities in order to bring a ‘shared experience’ will also be eligible for funding. Requests for funding to promote religious beliefs will not be granted.
- Parish Plans and Village Design Statements - Parish Plans and Village Design Statements are a valuable resource, not only to the Parish that produces one, but also as a useful source of knowledge for the Borough Council on local needs. They are developed by local people for local people and therefore are very well informed, with the added benefit of drawing communities together. This Grants Scheme provides grants of up to 50% towards printing and publicity costs of the final Plans and Statements subject to a maximum grant of £500 for villages with a population of less than 5,000 and up to £750 for those with a population over 5,000.
What are the limits on the Funding?
Community Development Grants can provide up to 50% of the cost of your scheme or project subject to the qualifying criteria being met.
There are three levels of grant:
- Grants under £500
- Grants between £500 and £2000
- Grants over £2000
When can applications be made?
You may apply at any time and your application will be taken to the next scheduled Panel meeting once it has been assessed.
What is the decision making process?
The Charnwood Grants Panel (the Panel) has authority to consider, evaluate and approve Community Development applications below £20,000, and to make recommendations to Cabinet where applications exceed £20,000.
The Panel meets 6 times a year during the first week of January, March, May, July, September and November. Applications will be considered at the next meeting following their receipt.
