In 2006 we carried out a consultation to get a snap-shot of how people feel about various community safety issues. The overall aim of the research was to gather information which would give Charnwood Borough Council and the Charnwood Community Safety Partnership a better understanding of residents’ views on ‘Fear of Crime’. The Partnership recognises that ‘Fear of Crime’ plays a significant role in peoples’ lives.

The questionnaire was sent to 800 members of our Citizen's Panel and was also made available on the website as an online form.

The questions in the questionnaire covered the following issues:

Whether respondents had been a victim of crime, which crimes they had been a victim of, (if applicable), when this had taken place and when the crimes had occurred.

The same set of questions were asked relating to people respondents considered to be ’close to them’, (e.g. relatives, neighbours and friends)

How safe respondents felt in given situations

Whether the fear of crime stopped them from doing things

What, in their opinion were responsible for making people feel afraid and what made people feel safe.

Locations for, effectiveness and functions of CCTV.

You can view the results below. If you would like more information about how the survey was carried out or what was done with the results please contact the Community Safety Team on 01509 263151.
