Free Food Digester - Join In The Pilot Scheme!

VOLUNTEERS are needed to take part in a Charnwood Borough Council run pilot scheme to trial an innovative product – which makes a meal out of unwanted food. Charnwood recycling officers are looking to recruit 250 households to take part in the environmentally-friendly free pilot, which will begin in October. The Green Cone Food Waste Digester helps cut the amount of raw and cooked meats, bones, vegetable scraps, dairy products, egg shells, teabags and bread that is normally thrown in black..

Loughborough on air

Loughborough was feature location of BBC East Midlands Today. It's really important to boost the good name of Loughborough and Charnwood across the region if we are going to attract new jobs and investment. I'd like to thank all those who contributed to the show, especially Bare Bones, our very own Morris Dancers. The Production team were super too. Thanks.

Fantastic Day Out in the Outwoods

I was lucky enough to join a group from the Vrudha Nivas residence for the elderly, which is on Rendell Street earlier this week at their picnic in the Outwoods organised by Charnwood Borough Council. There was 16 residents (and 2 grandchildren) at the event, along with Usha Solanki the project worker from the residential home and Varsha Parmar from the Charnwood Racial Equality Council. As part of the day, one of the Conservation team, Mark, gave us all a guided walk around one of the walks..

National Play Day - A Huge Success at Shortcliffe Park!

National Play Day was celebrated for the first time in Charnwood yesterday (2nd August 06) with Shortcliffe Park hosting the afternoons events. Over 150 people turned up at Shortcliffe Park, to enjoy the huge range of activities, tag rugby, football, cricket, dancing, soft play, giant footballs, a tug of war, an arts workshop making kites and of course the bouncy castle! (During the morning at School Lane Playing Fields in Birstall, at least another 250 people enjoyed National Play Days..

The ward lacks a public venue to meet residents on a regular basis. Do you want to have input into what equipment is put into the Holt Drive Play Area? The council is inviting residents (young and adult) to come to the Play Area on Tuesday 1 August between 2pm and 4pm to put your ideas to the officers. What do you want to see installed in the park? A Scrutiny Panel has been set up to investigate ways of improving Tenant Participation in the management of our Housing Stock. This panel is chaired by Cllr David Slater As part of this investigation Councillors Allen, Gay and Slater, officers and tenant representatives went to visit Solihull Community Housing. Councillors were able to speak to Tenant Participation Officers while our Tenant representatives were able to speak to Solihull tenants.
