SO MUCH THAT IS GOOD HERE -WHY BE SO NEGATIVE
Can I make a plea that we stop doing that terribly English thing of moaning, putting down, and writing 'disgusted letters' to the local press? Instead - do more to celebrate what's good here in Loughborough. All councillors and townspeople work hard to make the town a good place to be. Several people I spoke to recently actually choose to come shopping here - one from West Bridgford! Our parks and the Outwoods are lovely, our Leisure Centres, theatre, cinema, and restaurants alive - and while,..

The Bigger Picture
This afternoon, I went to Emmanuel Church at the heart of Southfields ward. I was looking at the work being done on 'The Bigger Picture.' The Big Picture is a world record breaking community picture, comprising of almost 500 panels, each painted by a community group or individual. Together they make up an 80 metre long picture of the Easter story being compiled on the grass outside Emmanuel Church on Forest Road during mid-March. This hasn't just involved Christian groups, and I was told that..

FOBS "Friends Of Broomfield School"
FOBS stands for "Friends Of Broomfield School", and are a group of parents and friends that are dedicated to raising funds for all the children that attend Broomfield School at East Goscote. This enables the school to buy the extra things they need to improve the quality of education and to give all the children the best opportunities in life. The FOBS group has been running for over 10 years now and in the past have managed to raise extra cash for computers, sports equipment and a school bus,..

Area Forum Meetings get underway
The first public Area Forum meeting took place at Fearon Hall on Tuesday. The turn out was good and there were presentations from the local NHS trust, Youth Services and representatives from both the borough and county councils and police on hand to answer any questions. Topics discussed included youth services and provisions, grants to local organisations in the area and also the possible relocation of NHS walk in centre. I would encourage all to attend the next Forum and I will post the date,..

Mayoral Visit, 5th February 2008
East Goscote was privileged to have received a visit from the Mayor of Charnwood, Cllr. Joe Tormey, on Wednesday, 5th February 2008. A jolly time was had by all those who managed to attend the event held at St. Hilda's Church and which was hosted by the Chair of the Parish Council along with the Rev'd Javaid Iqbal, Team Vicar, Syston Team Ministry. A very big 'Thank You' to all those involved!

A New Initiative.....
As part of the development of the countrywide Neighbourhood Engagement Strategy by 'Leicestershire Together' and also the ongoing process to work more closely across all tiers of Local Government, a network of Area (Community) Forums are being launched across the county. The Forums are supported by Leicestershire County Council, District Councils, the Leicestershire & Rutland Primary Care Trust and the Leicestershire Constabulary. These bodies will have a 'duty to respond' to recommendations..

Charnwood Forest Regional Park
As it's half term, I decided to take a quick walk round (and up) Beacon Hill this morning. I really enjoyed the fresh air, and it made all the more determined to see that the beautiful countryside that covers our area gains an official designation as a Regional Park. Some people might remember that I raised a motion about getting Charnwood Forest regional park status and I hope to hear some positive news soon.

Parking Concerns
Parking seems to be the biggest issue after housing at the moment. I would like all residents who have a parking issue, especially residents parking to get in touch so that I can raise concerns with officers at the council and to get issues resolved. There is also the ongoing issue of the parking by the train station and I will be raising concerns with Mike Jones our County Councillor about the situation.

Visit to Youthzone
Today I visited the Hut in Hermitage Road; our main community venue. The Hut is hardly new to me, but it was the first time I'd visited "Youthzone". There are computers and play stations, dancing, games and lots of other opportunities from 3.30pm. I'd like to thank all the volunteers who are doing a tremendous job giving children fun and learning in a safe environment after school. Later in the evening I visited Youth Forum, aimed at consulting young people on council issues. For more..
