Council Tax Disability Reduction Scheme
If a disabled person lives in your property and:
- He/she uses a wheelchair inside and there is room to do so, or
- There is a second bathroom or kitchen which is required for meeting the needs of the disabled person, or
- There is a room which is predominantly used by, and required for meeting the needs of the disabled person
you may receive a reduction equivalent to the difference between the charge for the band of your property and that of the band below. For instance, if your property is band C, you would pay a band B charge. If you live in a band A property, you would receive a discount of 1/6 of the band A charge.
Applications for Disabled Band Reduction will only be considered on receipt of a completed form. You must continue to pay your bill as requested while we consider your application. If a reduction is granted a revised bill will be issued to you taking into account payments received. If there is a credit balance on your account after a reduction has been applied, this will be carried forward against your future liability or refunded to you on request.
If a Disabled Band Reduction has been applied to your account you must tell us within 21 days of any change in circumstances affecting your entitlement.
If you think you may qualify for this reduction visit our Council Tax Forms page for an application or contact the Council Tax office. After you have completed an application form we will visit you to see whether we can award the reduction.
