Council Tax Benefit
These are benefits paid by Charnwood Borough Council to help reduce your Council Tax bill. These payment are made in line with government legislation.
You can claim Council Tax benefit if you are the person or one of the people liable to pay the council tax charge on the property you are living in. Click here for further information about Council Tax liabilities etc. If you move to a new property, new caravan site or boat mooring please do not wait until you have received you bill before applying for benefit. IMPORTANT NOTICE: Changes in the way your Housing or Council Tax Benefit is Assessed from 2nd November 2009If you are getting Child Benefit the amount you get will be ignored in calculating how much benefit you are entitled to. Also, if you are over sixty, any savings you have under £10,000 will be ignored. Benefit entitlements will be recalculated automatically to take account of these changes for anyone that is receiving housing or council tax benefit on or after 2nd November 2009. |
Second Adult Rebate
If you share your home with one or more people aged over 18 and you are the only person liable to pay Council Tax you may claim what is known as Second Adult Rebate.
However these other persons must not be:
- Paying a rent to you
- Your partner
- Disregarded for Council Tax Purposes.
Council Tax Benefit and Second Adult Rebate is credited directly to your Council Tax Account.
