Decision Letters
- We will write to you to tell you if you are entitled or not
- If you are entitled we will tell you how much you are entitled to
- If you are not entitled we will tell you why
If you are not entitled or the Discretionary Housing Payment does not meet the entire shortfall between your rent charge and your Housing Benefit, you can write to ask us to review our decision. A different officer to the one who made the original decision will look at the decision again.
If the decision is changed and you are entitled then payments will start from the date of the original claim. If the decision is not changed we will write to you to tell you why.
As a Discretionary Housing Payment is not a normal benefit award you cannot appeal to the Appeals Service.
NOTE:
- You must tell the Benefits Service straight away if your circumstances change
- If your normal award of benefit changes then we will look at any Discretionary Housing Payment awarded at the same time. If it is changed we will write and let you know why
- If you are overpaid Discretionary Housing Payments you will have to repay them
