Developing Services for Older People
Charnwood is committed to developing new and improving existing services for older people.
In 2009 the Council developed an Older Persons Housing Strategy and undertook a review of Sheltered Accommodation in the borough.
The strategy and review document are available on the Policy and Strategy pages of our website.
The Older Persons Strategy action plan is updated on a six monthly basis and a highlight report is produced identifying the main developments and any barriers to progressing the strategy.

Older persons' needs and aspirations
Charnwood Borough Council was the lead authority on the development of an older persons housing needs and aspirations project for Leicester and Leicestershire to gain a better understanding of the likely future needs in relation to older persons housing.
The study was undertaken by Salford University. For more information see Salford University - Older Peoples Needs and Aspirations in Leicester and Leicestershire.
The study has been commissioned to build upon the evidence base produced as part of the Strategic Housing Market Assessment (SHMA). A section on the Housing Needs of Older People within the main report at page 164.
A copy of the report that was completed in June 2010 together with the launch presentation can be found on the following link. Link to Older Persons HNA Study and launch presentation.
