Eastern Gateway Consultation 2005
A consultation exercise was held between the 20th June - 3rd July 2005 to discover the views of local residents and local businesses on the proposed
Eastern Gateway Redevelopment.
In partnership with Network Rail, our aim is to re-develop the land around Loughborough Train Station where a new link road is to be built. So far, three proposed schemes have been put forward by developers.
The final scheme will have a number of benefits for the area, these include:
Traffic Calming: The new link road will get traffic out of the Ratcliffe Road / Burder Street area.
We could then:
o close streets to through traffic
o restrict parking to local residents and businesses only
o improve the local environment
New Access Route to Loughborough Train Station, this will allow us to:
o increase parking to encourage more use of the station and take parking away from residential streets
o provide better interchange between different types of transport – buses, taxis and the trains
o improve access and safety for pedestrians and cyclists
Making use of derelict land: It will also open up land which could not otherwise be redeveloped. This will help to regenerate the area and fund the link road and the station improvements.

Have Your Say
We asked local residents, businesses and other interested parties to help us to decide what should be included in our final plan for the redevelopment of the land by commenting on the three schemes already proposed by developers (click on the link below) and by asking them for their own ideas.
These views have been fed into the decision making process that will see one of the three developers selected. We will then work with them to draw up the final development scheme.
The exhibitions took place as follows:
Loughborough Town Centre Roadshow Exhibition
on the 23rd, 24th and 25th June 10am – 4pm
Local Residents Roadshow Exhibition on Glebe Street on the following dates:
1st July 10am – 1pm & 6pm – 8pm
2nd July 10am – 4pm
3rd July 10am – 4pm
Plans were also displayed at Loughborough Train Station in the waiting rooms between 20th June – 1st July.
