Health and Well Being Award

The Health and Well Being Award is a new initiative for Leicestershire. Charnwood Borough Council is leading this joint initiative with input from the Leicestershire Nutrition and Dietetic Service, smoking cessation specialists and physical activity coordinators. The award is for recognition of employers taking responsibility for the health and well being of their employees. It is open to all businesses who have staff catering facilities and have received a 4 or 5 in the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme.

3M Healthcare Ltd and Avenance catering and more recently Tesco’s, Park Road, Loughborough have successfully gained the award.

The Health and Well Being Award aims to highlight ways of improving diet, increasing physical activity and reducing smoking. It is a chance to discover what changes in and around the workplace can effect positive differences in employees’ health and to achieve a lasting improvement to their lifestyles.

Increasing physical activity will be a major focus, but projects will also be aimed at encouraging better diets, giving up smoking and other lifestyle changes. The methods include everything from using pedometers to encouraging more walking, to workplace awareness campaigns on smoking, physical activity and diet.
