Housing Register

HOUSING REGISTER

The Housing Register is a list of people who have applied to Charnwood Borough Council to rent council and Housing Association properties.

Anyone who is aged over 18 years can apply to be included on the Housing Register. All applicants who apply to go on our Housing Register will be notified of the decision in writing.

Applicants on the Housing Register are separated into 3 categories, although they are all part of the same Register.

Waiting List

The Waiting List is for applicants living in private accommodation, i.e. owner occupiers, private tenants, applicants living with friends or relatives of tied accommodation.

Transfer List

The Transfer List is for applicants who currently live in council or Housing Association accommodation within the Borough of Charnwood who need to move. The Housing Transfer List factsheet which provides more information on how applications are assessed and properties are allocated, and gives a summary of the Council's Allocations policy.

Homeless List

The Homeless List is for applicants who have nowhere to live or are threatened with homelessness, and who Charnwood Borough Council has accepted a homeless duty to.

The Homeless Application factsheet explains how the homelessness laws work and what assistance the council may be able to offer you.

POINTS SYSTEM

The council aims to house applicants who are in the greatest need and we do this by using a points system.

Points are awarded according to your housing circumstances and level of housing need. The Housing Register & Points System factsheet explains who qualifies for the Housing Register, how applications are assessed, how properties are allocated and gives a summary of the council’s Allocations Policy.

Our Housing Allocations Policy provides more detailed information about how points are awarded.
