Leicestershire Waste Partnership

Leicestershire Waste Partnership Waste Strategy Review 2010
What is it?
The Leicestershire Waste Partnershipis made up of the seven district/borough councils in Leicestershire, along with Leicestershire County Council. It is pursuing a clear vision for sustainable waste management and resource use.
The Leicestershire Municipal Waste Strategy 2006 establishes aims and objectives that provide a route map for the Partnership to meet its vision.
Why review?
Leicestershire has the best recycling and composting rates of any county partnership in the Country. There are many reasons for this, including the investment of time and resources by local authorities and the hard work and dedication of residents.
Despite this excellent performance, the Partnership must make further improvements if it is to meet targets designed to reduce our reliance on landfill. Failure to meet these demanding targets will result in damage to the environment and financial penalty.
By reviewing the Strategy, the Partnership will ensure that it has a joint plan to maintain existing areas of best-practice, and improve service provision where it does not.
When is it happening?
The review process has already started and will run into Autumn 2010. There will be numerous stages including a public consultation period later in the year.
The Partnership is currently seeking views from statutory consultees (and others recommended by Defra), on the Scoping Report element of the Strategic Environmental Assessment.
