Micro chipping dogs
It's a Dogs Life! Although a collar and tag is a legal requirement for dogs in a public place it is simply not reliable, as it can become lost.
Microchipping identifies your dog forever, giving it the best possible chance of being returned to your home. It is a quick and painless procedure which involves implanting a tiny chip below the skin in the scruff of the dogs neck. The microchip contains a unique bar code which, when read by our Dog Control Officer's scanner, provides contact details of the dogs owner.
A free microchipping service is offered to people who re-home a dog from the Council's contract kennels (College Garth Kennels, Hathern) and is available at a cost of £15.00 for all dogs. The service takes place every Saturday from 10.00 am until 11.00 am, and appointments can be made by telephoning 01509 842327.
In addition all re-homed dogs are eligible for a free training scheme, details available by telephoning the Council on 01509 634628.
