MICRO-CHIPPING DOGS

It's a Dogs Life! Although a collar and tag is a legal requirement for dogs in a public place it is simply not reliable, as it can become lost.

The micro-chip contains a unique bar code, which when read by our Dog Control Officer's scanner provides instant details of the dog and its owner, thereby making it possible to quickly re-unite the two in the event of the dog straying. Microchipping identifies your dog forever, giving it the best possible chance of being returned to your home. It is a quick and painless procedure which involves implanting a tiny chip below the skin in the scruff of the dogs neck. The microchip contains a unique bar code which, when read by our Dog Control Officers scanner, provides contact details of the dogs owner.

A free microchipping service is offered to people who re-home a dog from the Council?s contract kennels (College Garth Kennels, Hathern) and is available at a cost of £15.00 for all dogs. The service takes place every Saturday from 10.00 am until 11.00 am, and appointments can be made by telephoning 01509 842327.

In addition all re-homed dogs are eligible for the Kennel Club Good Citizen Training Scheme, details available by telephoning the Council on 01509 634628.
