Moving House
Taxpayers who move house within Charnwood usually retain the same account number following their move. This makes it easier to administer the account since instructions relating to the account do not need to be set up again or linked to previous accounts.
Taxpayers moving out of the Borough or moving to a property for which they have no Council Tax liability will also be asked to provide a forwarding address. This will allow the Council to issue a final Council Tax bill for payment, or to issue a refund if Council Tax has been overpaid.
You must inform the Council within 21 days of any change of address or other change in circumstances which may affect liability to pay Council Tax. Information will also be taken in writing (by letter or e.mail) or by telephone on 01509 634864. A form may be issued to confirm the information received or to allow a taxpayer to claim for any discount, reduction or exemption which may be applicable.
Taxpayers new to Charnwood need to do one of the following:
| Complete a Commencement of Occupancy Form | If you are a new resident to Charnwood or moving from one property to another within Charnwood. |
| Complete a Council Tax Liability Change of Ownership Form (Purchaser) | If you have bought a property in Charnwood but do not intend to live there yourself. |
These forms, together with all the other Council Tax Forms can be found on our Council Tax Forms page.
Newcomers to the area may also find our property finder My Charnwood very useful as this provides lots of information relevant to a particular address.
