There are a number of issues facing people as they get older in terms of their housing and a growing range of options that are available. The intention of these pages is to provide information about services provided by Charnwood Borough Council and sign-posting to more specialist advice and services.

Accommodation for Older People

One choice facing older people is whether to remain in their existing home or to consider moving to accommodation designed for older people.

There is a wide range of accommodation for older people ranging from flats providing optional support that is restricted to older people through to sheltered accommodation and extra care schemes for rent along with leasehold and other ownership options.

Support and Advice for Older People

There are a range of support services available for older people, some of which are linked to specialist accommodation but some which can be accessed wherever you live and regardless of the type of home you have.

Other Services

There are a lot of other services available that are not directly linked to your home but can assist you and ensure that you enjoy your old age as much as you can. These range from social groups and luncheon clubs to specialist support agencies such as Help the Aged. For more information about these services please click here.

Development of Services

Ensuring that the relevant services are available to older people within Charnwood is a priority for the Borough Council. There are a range of activities taking place to ensure that we understand what older people want and do everything we can to put as many of those services and facilities as possible in place.
