"Other work"

(Work for which neither a Full Plans application nor a Building Notice need be given)

If the work is of a type described in Column (1) of the table below and is to be carried out by a person described in Column (2), then no submission of a Full Plans application or Building Notice is necessary.

It is a legal requirement however that the person carrying out the work, within 30 days of its completion, gives:
• to the occupier of the building, a certificate stating that the work complies with the requirements of the Building Regulations; and
• to the local authority, a copy of the certificate described above or notice of its effect

Installation of a heat-producing gas appliance.

A person, or an employee of a person, who is a member of a class of persons approved in accordance with regulation 3 of the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998.

Installation of –
(a) an oil-fired combustion appliance which has a rated heat output of 45 kilowatts or less and which is installed in a building with no more than 3 storeys (excluding any basement); or
(b) oil storage tanks and the pipes connecting them to combustion appliances.

An individual registered under the Oil Firing Registration Scheme by the Oil Firing Technical Association for the Petroleum Industry Ltd in respect of that type of work

Installation of a solid fuel burning combustion appliance which has a rated heat output of 50 kilowatts or less and which is installed in a building with no more than 3 storeys (excluding any basement).

An individual registered under the Registration Scheme for Companies and Engineers involved in the Installation and Maintenance of Domestic Solid Fuel Fired Equipment by HETAS Ltd in respect of that type of work.

Installation, as a replacement, of a window, rooflight, roof window or door in an existing building.

A person registered under the Fenestration Self-Assessment Scheme by Fensa Ltd in respect of that type of work.

Installation of fixed low or extra-low voltage electrical installations.

A person registered by -
(a) BRE Certification Limited.
(b) British Standards Institution.
(c) ELECSA Limited.
(d) NICEIC Certification Services Ltd.
(e) NAPIT Certification Limited.
in respect of that type of work.

Installation of fixed low or extra-low voltage electrical installations as a necessary adjunct to or arising out of other work being carried out by the registered person.

A person registered by -
(a) CORGI Services Limited.
(b) ELECSA Limited.
(c) NAPIT Certification Limited.
(d) NICEIC Certification Services Limited
(e) The Oil Firing Technical Association for the Petroleum industry Limited
in respect of that type of electrical work.

Any building work which is necessary to ensure that any appliance, service or fitting which is installed and which is described above, complies with the applicable requirements contained in Schedule 1 of the Building Regulations. (Building work which is necessary to ensure that a heat-producing gas appliance complies with the applicable requirements contained in Schedule 1 is not permitted by this section unless the appliance - (a) has a net rated heat input of 70 kilowatts or less; and
(b) is installed in a building with no more than 3 storeys (excluding any basement)).

The person who installs the appliance, service or fitting to which the building work relates and who is described in the corresponding entry in the table above.
