An independent Inspector appointed by the Secretary of State has considered the submission version of the SCI. The purpose of the independent examination is to determine whether the SCI is a sound document. The role of the Inspector is to carry out an independent assessment of the soundness of the SCI and to ensure that it satisfies the statutory requirements for its preparation. The Inspector assesses the SCI on the basis of evidence submitted to the examination (including any representations made on the submitted SCI) and his or her wider knowledge and professional judgement. Where the SCI is found to be unsound, the Inspector is able to make changes to the SCI to rectify this.
The Inspector's Report concerning the Statement of Community Involvement was received by the Council in November 2005. The Inspector's Report is binding. The Council must make the recommendations set out by the Inspector.
A report was taken to Cabinet on 15th December 2005 . The Council formally considered the adoption of the Statement of Community Involvement on 16th January 2006.
