SWITCH Trial
Charnwood Borough Council's exciting new trial aims to find out how we can best help our residents to minimise the amount of waste that they produce. We want to find out which activities, that residents can take part in, are the most effective at diverting waste away from landfill sites.
The trial is not covering the whole of the Borough. It is limited to one particular refuse and recycling round that covers most parts of Barrow upon Soar, and certain areas of Loughborough and Quorn. The round that has been selected is a good demographic representation of the Borough as a whole, and the residents who are taking part in the trial have been informed.
By targeting just one round, we'll be able to monitor the trial more effectively. The information gained from this trial will help us make the important decisions about how to achieve the same aim across the whole of the Borough.
To launch the trial we held an event at the Humphrey Perkins High School and Community Centre, Cotes Road, Barrow-upon-Soar LE12 8JU.
During the trial the SWITCH team will be hosting events and producing information to promote, support and educate residents on the best way to reduce their waste. As part of this initiative we will be offering residents who are taking part in the trial, free equipment. The equipment on offer will be home composters, Green Cones, wormeries and Bokashi kits.
In addition to the free equipment, we will also be promoting the garden waste bin albeit at it's current annual charge.
